One unhappy Happy cat

Poor persian Happy - he's so sad .. he isn't eating well - though he passively chews and swallows food put in his mouth. He mews to try to get attention but runs when he is offered attention. He's matted and shaved and it must be cold.

He is awfully cute though .. anybody want a sad Happy cat?

9 /98

of the 98 animals taken in, adopted, moved whatever in the last two and a bit weeks I have had nothing to directly with 9 of them .. I know of them .. I am working hard to get them placed in permanent homes but I of the other 89 I have transported them, or found foster or adoptive homes, or taken them for vetting, or taken their foster homes food, or or or ... or am fostering them directly ..

no wonder I lost my voice this week!

All About Pets Show

It was the 18th annual AAPS this year - I've been attending the show as a participant since 1995. That's a lot of Easter Weekends given to the animals but the value s truly priceless. This year we met hundreds of people and already today 22 animals are in new permanent homes as a direct result of the show. I get to connect with former adoptors and hear how my one time charges are doing. It is exhausting and wonderful all at once. This year I ran into Sasha and Harley's mom - she sent some pictures - they are doing great!

revolving doors ...

Boots, Soda Pop, Zeldy, Patches, Pi, Bali all have come into Project Jessie in the last month ...actually in the last two weeks ... Patches was the most scared and most shy and ended up being the first to go to her forever home too! Just perfect!
Pi and Bali are both blue eyed siamese type cats .. sweet as can be .. Pi is hanging with us after giving us a big scare last week when he decided eating wasn't important .. he's bouncing back but my radar is suspecting some bigger issue than we've identified yet. Bali and Z are at the Global. Boots and Soda Pop are with Shelly. (Boots is recovering from an eye ulcer).

Our fabulous foster home NF has taken on a litter of puppies and their Mom Ruby. She's come up with a whack of jewel names for them .. Opal, Diamond, Jade, Pearl etc ... very cute. 6 day old puppies smell delicious and make the cutest sounds. Ruby made the transfer well - lets hope she is an easy house guest!!

Getting organized for All About Pets .. next weekend ... too much to do .. too little time .. just another day in rescue land

Just a passing comment ...

by a friend when she woke up late one morning and had to cut her dogs walks short. You see, she is a dog walker by day and a dog lover by night so she felt she was " the shoemaker". You know, the shoe maker who lets his own children run barefoot.

Sally on the beach
Sometimes I'm a shoemaker too. Busy checking on my foster charges, doing some behavioural modification with them, dispensing medication, grooming (and grooming) them. I worry our own gang gets neglected. That's why it's lovely to be on holidays. Everybody, every buddy, can get attention. We are so very fortunate to have an incredible pet sitter who can take the foster charges under her wing for a week. Their basics are taken care of but the forever dogs (and on this holiday rabbits) can move to a much more central role.

It's lovely.

All About Pets Show

Yup - it's coming up again - the All About Pets Show - if you live in the GTA you may want to schedule a little bit of time for the show on Easter Weekend. It's usually a  lot of fun .. and I say that with 17 years under my belt ..(though one year I worked from Hawaii on the beach pictured here!) I have organized the central adoption area for over 10 years and am thrilled that HUNDREDS of animals have found homes through the wonderful volunteers work. We've placed birds and small animals of all descriptions (hamsters, guinea pigs, mice, rats, turtles) dogs, cats,  and a pot bellied pig through contacts made at the show. We hear all kinds of great stories about how people got their animals and answer all sorts of questions about adoption (there is no stupid question - well there is no question so stupid that somebody hasn't asked it anyhow!).

We have also adopted lots of rabbits with the support of the fine folks at the OREO booth who love and nourish our rabbits while educating the public.
This year I'd be thrilled to find some sheep homes. I know we'll have rabbits, and dogs and cats and small animals of some sort looking for homes too!

Some fun ...  a parrot, a hedgehog and a baby rabbit hit a tv show - sounds like a joke but it was just loads of fun
All of the species interacted gently, with a great deal of curiousity. It was SO cute!

Sully has lived with us since 2003  - he gives noisy parrots a good name - he is such a sweet boy. It was fun having some time today to just hang out with him.
